A police officer said an undertrial man brandished a knife and threatened to kill a sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) inside her court chamber at Berhampur in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Monday.
Lawyers and court personnel present overpowered Bhagaban Sahu, who was on bail, and turned him over to police.
Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M told the media that the SDJM is safe.
Sahu was arrested under several IPC sections, including Section 307 More research is being conducted.
The incident took place in the afternoon, while the SDJM was working in her chamber adjacent to the courtroom. According to the SP, the accused appeared out of nowhere and brandished a knife at her.
Sahu, who is facing four criminal charges, appeared in court for the hearing.
