At Naveen Niwas in the capital of Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited Ifu Mallick on Friday. Mallick was having trouble finding funding for his education despite passing the NEET.
Following media reports that he was working on farms and construction sites to pay for his medical education, the state government approved Rs 62,950 on Tuesday to cover the costs of his first-year MBBS study at Saheed Lakshman Nayak (SLN) Medical College and Hospital in Koraput district.
Ifu told the CM about his difficulties finding funding for his education. After becoming a doctor, he stated that he wished to give back to Odisha and his community. He was informed that the monies were authorised as part of a campaign the CM started to support deserving ST/SC students in continuing their education, particularly in professional colleges.
He was thanked for his assistance. He promised to help my family. I’m grateful I got to meet him in person. He offered me a new phone as soon as he saw the broken part of my old one when I was shooting a selfie with him. I’m thrilled to have met him,” he exclaimed.
Ifu is the son of a daily wage earner from the tribally dominant Kandhamal district’s Bagramila hamlet. On his second try, he passed the NEET exam. But he needed to work as a farmhand and on construction sites to fund his goal and the Rs 15,000 annual dormitory costs. He had borrowed Rs 38,950 from the father of a buddy in order to pay the government-run medical college’s first-year admissions fees. With December 15 being the deadline for the start of classes, he struggled to come up with the Rs 4,000 he needed to pay the monthly mess fees in addition to the hostel price.
