Hyderabad: A 11-year-old Class-VI student committed suicide after being raped by a 26-year-old man on Friday at her residence in Bowrampet. Dundigal police arrested Shiva Kumar, 26, who is an electrician and her neighbour, on Monday.
According to Shankaraiah, inspector of Dundigal police station, the two know each other for the last four months and he was allegedly in love with her.
“Shiva had been luring the minor under the guise of love for four months now. On Friday night, around 9 pm, when the girl’s mother was at work and her siblings went to their native place, Shiva asked her to meet him at an isolated ground near the house.
When the girl went to meet him, he raped her, causing her bleeding injuries,” said the official, adding that the girl then went home and was unable to comprehend the sudden turn of events. Due to fear of facing her family, she commited suicide.
Bhagyalakshmi, the mother found her daughter hanging in the house with a chunni and also saw blood stains on her leg, following which she alerted the cops.
Based on a complaint from her, Shiva was charged under Sections 376 (rape) and 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC and under relevant sections of PoCSO Act. He was arrested on Monday.
