Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s 44th ‘Mann ki Baat’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation in the 44th edition of his ‘Mann ki Baat’ programme detailed a range of topics from India’s leadership role in fighting climate change to women empowerment.

Today’s edition revolved centrally around efforts made by young Indians to change the definition of ‘development’. He said, India’s youth are excelling in various fields and expanding the meaning of the word ‘development’.

In his previous edition of Mann Ki Baat, the prime minister touched upon topics ranging from the recent Commonwealth Games to the upcoming monsoon season.

During the last broadcast, Modi had also urged every citizen to start preparations for the fourth International Yoga Day on 21 June, an issue the prime minister is expected to mention again on Sunday’s address.

Here are the key highlights from his address:

* PM Modi spoke on women Empowerment- He Congratulated the all women navy crew. He said, Tarini Mission made India proud.

*Participation of youth in key governmental programmes- It is very overwhelming to see today’s youth actively participating in various govt initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, stated Modi.

*World Environment Day- “Beat Plastic pollution” is the theme for the upcoming World Environment day. He urged all Indian to actively undertake efforts towards a sustainable climate.

*International Yoga Day- He urged the citizens to include yoga in their life, as it has a transformative effect.

* Tribal students from Chandrapur, Maharashtra- Modi lauded 5 tribal students from Chandrapur, Maharashtra, Ajeet and Deeya Bajaj, Sangeeta Bahl and a BSF contingent for scaling the Mount Everest.

* Initiatives such as Fit India- The positive response towards Fit India is overwhelming, there has been an increase in awareness towards fitness, said Modi.

* Traditional sports fading away- PM expressed concern over “fading away” of traditional sport such as ‘kho khho’, ‘pitthu’, ‘lattu’ and ‘gulli-danda’ “to the point of extinction”.
