Bishnu Charan Sethi, a BJP leader, claimed that two days prior, a few members caused a commotion in the home in protest of the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate.

After Bishnu Charan Sethi, the deputy leader of the BJP Legislature Party (BJPLP), claimed that it has become customary for Congress leaders to criticise the Centre anytime a Central agency takes action against a corrupt political leader, there were raucous scenes in the Assembly on Saturday.

Speaker Bikram Keshari Arukha was forced to call an all-party conference and adjourn the house for 10 minutes at 11.52 a.m. after Congress members went to the house well to loudly protest Sethi’s statement. He called a 15-minute recess before adjourning the house till 4 p.m. since the problem could not be resolved.

Sethi brought up the matter during zero hour, stating that two days earlier, certain members had caused a scene in the house by raising objections to the summons sent to Congress President Sonia Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald money laundering case. In opposition to Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, being questioned in connection with this case, the local ED office was also attacked.

In relation to the alleged teacher recruitment scam, the BJP spokesman said that the ED on Friday detained West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee and recovered Rs 20 crore during a raid on the home of Arpita Mukherjee, a close friend of the minister.

“This has demonstrated that the charges made by Opposition political parties that the Centre is engaging in vengeful politics and utilising the Central agencies like the ED and CBI to frighten and suppress the Opposition is not accurate,” he continued.

The BJP leader pleaded with the Speaker not to permit discussion on any such topics in the house in the future, claiming that the Central agencies are acting independently and not at the direction of the Centre.

In response to the remark, Tara Prasad Bahinipati (Congress) claimed that the BJP was engaging in vengeful politics and purposefully targeting the leaders of the Opposition by abusing the ED and CBI.

On the other side, he continued, the BJP has broken all democratic norms in Maharashtra and Assam by abusing its financial power.

Santosh Singh Saluja, a Congressman, also criticised the Centre for utilising the ED to continually question Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. He urged the government, if it has the guts, to question figures like Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya, and Nirav Modi.
