BHUBANESWAR: Unmarried couples can now share a room without any fears. A recent judgement by the Madras High Court in a case, has made this fact clear.
The Court has clearly stated that if an unmarried adult couple want to stay together in a room they can do so. There is no law to prevent the same or to punish them.
Justice M.S. Ramesh while deciding a matter relating to the sealing of a hotel in Coimbatore without explanation after an unmarried couple were found occupying a room during a search by authorities.
He said, “Apparently, there are no laws or regulations forbearing unmarried persons of the opposite sex to occupy hotel rooms as guests.”
The court also ordered de-sealing of a hire service apartment in Coimbatore, which was closed after authorities found an unmarried couple occupying the apartment during a search, following complaints of alleged immoral activities involving a couple and some liquor bottles.
Justice Ramesh further said that, “the state law allowed possession of stipulated quantities of liquor by an individual.
The Judge added, “the consumption of liquor by the guests on the petitioners’ premises cannot also be termed as illegal.”
