Bhubaneswar, November 27: A Flood Hazard Atlas for Odisha to identify the flood hazard level of various villages in the state would be finalised and published by end of January, 2019.

This was known from a state-level consultation meeting on the preparation of Flood Hazard Atlas for Odisha held under the chairmanship of Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Disaster Management and Managing Director, OSDMA Bishnupada Sethi on Monday in the Conference hall of OSDMA.

The Atlas is being prepared by the National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC), ISRO, Hyderabad using satellite based flood inundation information for the period from 2001 to 2018.

The atlas would be helpful for flood management in the state and also taking various flood preparedness measures. At the outset, KVH Durga Rao, Head, Disaster Management Support Division, NRSC outlined about the methodology adopted for preparation of the atlas.

Officers from Dept. of Water Resources, Dept of Agriculture, O/o Special relief Commissioner, OSDMA, RIMES, IMD and District Project Officers attended the meeting and provided necessary inputs for preparation of the Atlas.
