Koraput,Dec.22: Two explosive-laden vehicles were seized and five persons arrested from Pottangi area of Koraput district late last night, police said today.
As per reports, three among the five accused are from Semiliguda area and the other two from Punduru area of Andhra Pradesh. The apprehended persons were identified as K Rama Krushna (driver), Upendra Naidu, J Laxmi Narayan, S Bunty Mala and Narasingha Rao.
Acting on reliable information about the transportation, police intercepted the vehicles en route to Semiliguda from Andhra.
Following this, the cops apprehended five persons involved in the illegal transportation and seized the six-wheeler Truck and a car carrying the huge cache of explosives. The explosives materials include 25,000 gelatin stick, 38 bands of the codex and around 10,000 detonators.
Though the explosives are used for the purpose of store quarrying, police suspect that the materials are likely to be used by Maoists, said a source.
While the arrested persons are in police custody and are being interrogated, a detailed investigation into the case is underway, sources in the police said.
