Kanungo joined the party during the ‘Parivartan Sankalpa Samabesha’ at Tamando Mini Stadium on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The former Odisha minister will now be seen in active politics and Congress camps.
On being asked about his plans to contest polls after joining the Congress, Kanungo said, “I haven’t thought about contesting elections. Let the party decide. I will definitely fight, if the party wants me to do so,”
After his ouster from the ruling-BJD, Kanungo stayed away from politics. In the recent past, he was spotted attending several public meeting with expelled BJD leader Damodar Rout.
Though Kanungo had hinted at joining a new party to be floated by the Biju loyalists, who were sacked from the BJD, he finally joined the Indian National Congress.
