The ruling BJD, headed by Shri Naveen Patnaik, had already pledged support for the ‘Odisha daughter’.

Droupadi Murmu, the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Alliance, landed in her home state to a resounding welcome on Friday at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. She is currently on a whirlwind tour of the nation rallying support for her candidacy.

Prior to Ms. Murmu’s arrival, hundreds of people, including lawmakers, members of the legislative assembly, and political figures, flocked to the airport area. Ms. Murmu is almost certain to be elected to the highest constitutional office in India.

Traditional dancing groups from many districts could be seen performing to the rudimentary beat of cymbals and drums. As she left the airport, a jubilant mob waved her posters and cheered for her. MPs and MLAs from the BJP lined up outside the State Guest House to greet her.

Before being elected governor of Jharkhand, Ms. Murmu served as a minister and two-time MLA in Odisha. She spoke in front of a group of MPs and MLAs. She later spoke about her candidacy with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

“I had rakhi tied on CM’s hand. He made contact with me while he was away. I am a rural woman who worked a lot as a minister, Ms. Murmu remarked.

As she is from Odisha, I implore everyone to support her, the Odisha CM stated.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the ideal option in choosing Droupadi Murmu ji. She is a woman who is a member of a tribal group. Everyone in the nation is thrilled about her candidacy, according to Aparajita Sarangi, a Bhubaneswar member of parliament. Suresh Pujari, a member of parliament from Bargarh, praised the historic choice of Ms. Murmu as a candidate for president.

Political analysts claimed that because she had already been guaranteed a majority of the electoral votes in the presidential election, the necessity for complicated vote estimation would not be necessary.

Despite not being a member of the NDA, the BJD has demonstrated exceptional zeal in rallying support for the former governor of Jharkhand. On June 21, the day after BJP President J. P. Nadda declared her candidacy, Mr. Patnaik posted on social media that he and Prime Minister Mr. Modi had discussed the choice.

He then advised all political parties in Odisha to support Ms. Murmu because she is an Odia and is a native of the State. Senior BJD MLAs met with Congress leadership and MLAs during the last week at Mr. Patnaik’s request to solicit support for Ms. Murmu.
