Odisha’s Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday declared that Odisha is benefiting from a “double engine” government that will lead the state towards rapid development and prosperity. Addressing a large gathering at Barang in the Banki assembly segment of Cuttack district, Majhi emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has provided a people-centric administration in the state.
“The people of Odisha are being served by a double engine government, which is focused on development and prosperity. Our government, both at the state and the Centre, is committed to making a new Odisha,” Majhi said.
The term “double engine” has become a rallying cry for BJP leaders, symbolizing the synergy between the party’s governance at both the state and central levels. Majhi’s remarks reflect the BJP’s long-held view that having the same party in power in both places accelerates the pace of development by ensuring smoother cooperation between the two.
People-Centric Governance in Odisha
Majhi outlined several initiatives that highlight the government’s commitment to the people of Odisha. A key example, he said, is the decision to open all four gates of the revered Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, as well as the Ratna Bhandar, the Lord’s treasury, shortly after the formation of the government. “This decision shows that the state government is people-centric and fully dedicated to respecting the sentiments and religious faith of Odia citizens,” he added.
The Chief Minister stressed that the BJP has consistently prioritized the welfare of the people, offering governance that is transparent, accountable, and focused on long-term development.
BJP’s Vision for a New Odisha
Mohan Majhi also took the opportunity to lay out his vision for a “new Odisha,” underlining the party’s emphasis on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment. “Our government is focused on creating opportunities for the youth, modernizing our infrastructure, and ensuring that every citizen has access to quality healthcare and education. These are the pillars upon which a prosperous Odisha will be built,” he said.
Majhi’s speech resonated with the audience, as he assured them that the BJP is working towards transforming the state and positioning it as a major hub for investment and innovation.
Appeal for BJP Membership
During his address, the Chief Minister also highlighted the BJP’s global standing as the largest political party in the world. “The BJP is not just a party, but a movement with a different ideology that focuses on nation-building. I appeal to all of you to take its membership and contribute to the mission of building a stronger India and a new Odisha,” Majhi urged.
His call for increasing party membership is part of the BJP’s ongoing drive to expand its base in Odisha, a state where the party aims to significantly boost its presence ahead of upcoming elections.
Political Impact of the “Double Engine”
The “double engine” government narrative has been central to the BJP’s election campaigns across several states, where the party argues that having its leadership at both the state and national levels can remove bureaucratic hurdles, align development goals, and attract more central funds and projects.
In Odisha, CM Mohan Charan Majhi has positioned this strategy as a game-changer for the state’s growth. With the BJP in power at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with Majhi leading the charge at the state level, the government aims to fast-track development projects and bolster the state’s infrastructure to create a more vibrant economy.
As the state prepares for future elections, Majhi’s emphasis on the “double engine” government is expected to be a key theme in the BJP’s outreach to voters, promising faster progress and deeper welfare reforms under the party’s dual governance.
Majhi concluded his speech by reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to building a prosperous Odisha, where the needs of the people are at the forefront of every decision. “Together, with the support of the people and the alignment of state and central policies, we will achieve our vision of a new, dynamic, and prosperous Odisha,” he said.
