The district collectors in Odisha have been instructed to firmly enforce the ban on single-use plastics. Action should be taken against the manufacturing facilities and retailers, according to Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra.
The district collectors in Odisha have been given strong instructions to carry out the single-use plastic ban. Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra stated at a virtual meeting on Friday that action should be done against the businesses that produce and sell single-use plastics.
Last year, the Center announced a ban on single-use plastics, which went into force on July 1 nationwide. Thermocol, plastic banners of less than 100 microns in thickness, plates, mugs, cutlery, balloon and earphone sticks made of plastic, and plastic wrapping and packaging of goods are among the prohibited items.
According to a statement, Mohapatra ordered the district collectors, divisional forest officers, and field officers of various departments to vigorously enforce the legislation at markets, tourist attractions, and other public locations. They were required to submit a monthly report on the ban’s compliance and set up special squads to step up their raids on makers and suppliers.
The administration has made the decision to run significant awareness campaigns against the use of plastic bottles, polythene bags, and other things. The campaign will actively solicit participation from eco groups established in educational institutions, businesses, and public society. The top officials talked about gathering and managing plastic debris. Mohapatra emphasised the value of recycling it and the requirement to enhance its use in cement manufacturing and road construction.
Additionally, it was determined to expand the capacity of trash sorting and recycling facilities.
