A unexplained burst of light illuminated the skies over East and Northeast India late on Thursday night (December 15). Up until the news of the ballistic missile Agni-successful V’s test broke out, social networking sites were replete with rumours about the phenomena that had taken the internet by storm.
A defence official told the media that the night test of the nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-V had been completed successfully in Odisha.
The missile can already hit targets at distances of up to 5,000 km with a high degree of accuracy, and depending on the results of the testing, the range can now be extended even further.
The test, according to officials, was carried out to verify new equipment and cutting-edge technologies on the missile, which now weighs less. Overall, the successful test of this homegrown surface-to-surface ballistic missile has strengthened India’s defence capabilities.
