Cyclone Titli toll mounts to 61; Rs 11 cr aid distributed in Gajapati

Bhubaneswar,October 20: The Odisha government today confirmed the death of 61 persons in the very severe cyclone Titli and subsequent flood in various districts of the state. Earlier the toll was pegged at 57.

Speaking to the mediapersons here after a review meeting, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said, “61 lives have been lost in the Cyclone Titli-related incidents while 11 deaths, including that of 3 Andhra fishermen, are yet to be confirmed.”

The Chief Secretary informed that financial assistance to the tune of Rs 11 crore cash has been distributed in Gajapati district so far while the same is in the last phase in Ganjam district.

Talking about the restoration works, Padhi said, “The restoration of disrupted roads in almost all affected places are already complete except the road from Sorada to Daringbadi on the Raipur-Gopalpur national highway will take some more time as a portion has been completely washed away in the flood.

A preliminary report on the loss of lives and property has been submitted to the Centre for assistance, Padhi added.
