Cyclone Titli: Heavy Rain Cripples Normal Life Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain continues to lash Odisha under the impact of cyclonic storm Titli throwing normal life out of gear.

Situation is critical in Ganjam, Gajapati and Balasore districts as several rivers have started to swell due to the incessant rain.

Low lying areas in most of the districts including the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar remained waterlogged due to the heavy rain triggered by the cyclonic storm Titli.

According to reports, water is flowing 6 metres above the danger mark in Jalaka river due to heavy rain.

As per sources, flood water has entered into Baunsalundi, Jamapalli, Gamundi and several areas in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district. Water level in the Bada and Loharakhandi river is also reportedly flowing above the danger mark.

Meanwhile, communication on Lathipada-Shergad road has been disrupted while bridge on Badagada Jarau River has been washed away following heavy rainfall.

Similarly, road communication was disrupted between Andhra Pradesh and Paralakhemundi after Mahendratanaya river swelled up resulting in inundation of several low lying areas.

Similarly, the situation continues to remain grim in Puri district as several places in the district have remained waterlogged.

Meanwhile, the regional Met department has issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for the districts of Khurda, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Kandhamal, Sundergarh and Deogarh from 7.45 am to 11.45 am today.
