Once again, a woman fell victim to online scams in Odisha; this time, the scammers’ trap was in Cuttack. They stole up to Rs. 7.95 lakh in plunder. The online scammer identified himself as a Scotsman.

After talking to the victim for almost two months and claiming to be an engineer, the cyber fraudster made her a marriage proposal. Even the meeting of their families was promised by him. The victim (a woman) lives in Cuttack city’s Bidanasi neighbourhood. She had transferred funds to four various bank accounts.

The justification for the money transfer was unusual! The online scammer claimed to have delivered the woman gifts that were delayed in customs at the airport. To get the items out of customs, the woman had constantly been urged to give money.

A bundle of bills, a bag, a wallet, two pairs of shoes, belts, and gold bracelets and chains were among the valuables. The cybercriminals have been detained at the Cyber Police Station under Commissionerate Police Cuttack under Sections: 419, 420, 465, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections: 66E, 66D of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

According to trustworthy sources, the Jamtara cyber fraud gang or the Nigerian cyber fraud gang may be responsible for this type of cyber scam.
