Due to seawater pouring near to the road, the Marine Drive between Puri and Konark is at risk of being eroded by the sea. High tides during the two days of intense rain have also caused damage to several power poles.
Even while commuters put their lives in danger by using the road, electric lines hang precariously close by. Due to the high tides close to Ramachandi, the coastline road is in danger of being inundated in the water.
The advancing tide has seriously damaged a number of power poles along the route. Three kilometres of road between Maa Ramchandi Peeth and the mouths of the Kusabhadra and Chandrabhaga rivers have been covered in sand due to the sea’s strong current.
Locals urged the district administration to act quickly out of concern that the sea might eat up the road.
