Bhubaneswar.11 , Jan .2019: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today unveiled ‘Sweet Potato’ as the mascot for Krushi Odisha-2019, the annual farmers’ convention to start from January 15 here.
As Odisha stands number one in the country in terms of sweet potato production by producing 4 lakh tonnes of the edible, it has been chosen as the mascot of Krushi Odisha-2019, official sources said.
Moreover, it is rich in Vitamin-A, and is also known as a disaster relief crop which withstands both cyclone and drought, it added.
Sweet potato has religious importance as it is used in Mahaprasad of Lord Jagannath at the Srimandir in Puri, said Agriculture And Farmers’ Empowerment Minister Shashi Bhusan Behera.
Notably, Krushi Odisha-2019 will be held at the Biju Pattnaik Ground, Baramunda here from January 15 to 19 in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
