Central University of Orissa celebrates National Education Day

 Koraput ,Nov.13: The Central University of Orissa, Koraput celebrated National Education Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of independent Indias first Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad at its permanent campus on 11.11.2018. On this occasion a special lecture on Importance of Education and the Nations Commitment to all aspects of Education delivered by the Chief Guest Prof. Gowramma. I.P, Professor of Education, Regional Institute of Education, NCERT, Bhubaneswar. Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor of the University conveyed his best wishes on the occasion of National Education Day. In his message Prof. Mohanty mentioned about the importance of education and the nations commitment to all aspects of education. He congratulated the University community specially Education Department for organising successful programme. Dr. Ramendra Parhi, HoD (I/c), Department of Education delivered the welcome address.
Prof. Gowramma highlighted how Bharat Ratna Moulana Azad voiced & strongly advocated universal primary education, free and compulsory education for all children up to the age of 14, vocational training, technical education and quality education.  She said In the opinion of the Azad education was the right of one and all. He knew that India was a nation with a broad cultural spectrum and hence needed educated citizens to participate in nation-building tasks. She emphasized the value and importance of education and focused on the unity among the diversity in the field of education of our country. She said We need to have a grand narrator of our culture and history. We need to take pride of our legacy and culture and need to pass over it to our next generation. India is very unique and contradicts but yet we are united. She also said towards the education in our county commitment is shown right from the Constitution, as free and compulsory education for the citizens of the country is our fundamental rights. Functionary democracy depends on the education of the citizens of the country. We need leaders to run free and compulsory education at the country. She encouraged the students to go to ground level and see what is happing and must analyze what has happened and what yet to be done. She pointed out in her speech some historical steps taken by Maulana Azad as the founder of UGC, IITs, IISs, AICTE and other important bodies for educational development in the country.
Dr. Parhi in his welcome address emphasized on the elementary education and its role in construction of a developed country. He highlighted how we owe a great deal to the progress achieved in education in independent India to the direction and goals that Maulana Azad had envisioned for us. He also said that the role of a teacher in nation building is very crucial.
Ms. Suman Mandal, Sh. Debraj Pradhan, Ms. Laxmi Priya, and Sh. Amit Mishal students from the Department of Education also spoke on the contribution of Bharat Ratna Azad in development of Education.
Ms. Suman Mandal, students from the Department of Education proposed vote of thanks and Ms. Bibhulina Mishra compeered the programme. PRO of the University Dr. Phagunath Bhoi, Research scholars, students and staffs were present on the occasion.
