Bhubaneswa,December 05: In a bid to ensure safety of passengers, railway authorities have decided to install CCTVs in major trains and at all railway stations across the State.

A decision to this effect was taken at  State-level committee meeting on railways security held under the chairmanship of DGP RP Sharma here today.

Speaking to media, Additional Director General (ADG) of Railways Pranabindu Acharya said, “CCTV cameras will be installed in all bogies of major trains and all railway stations in the State. Besides, baggage scanners will be installed at all railways stations and those lying defunct will be repaired soon.”

The railway authorities have assured that they will install baggage scanner at Rourkela Railway Station within seven days, the ADG added.

Besides, new railway lines, including Talcher-Sambalpur, Rayagada-Koraput and Khordha-Nayagarh will be brought under the jurisdiction of Government Railway Police (GRP). A proposal in this regard will be sent to the State Government soon, Acharya added.

Among others, officials of South Eastern Railway, Eastern Railway and South East Central Railway attended the meeting today.
