BWF World Tour Finals: Sindhu beats defending champion in opening match

Guangzho,Dec.12 : Ace shuttler PV Sindhu notched up a tough win over defending champion Akane Yamaguchi in the opening match of the women’s singles of the BWF World Tour Finals here on Wednesday.

While Sindhu started her campaign in the event with a winning note, seventh-seeded Sameer Verma lost the first match in the men’s single event.

Sindhu with 24-22, 21-15 scoreline defeated Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the first match of Group A. Whereas, Verma with 18-21, 6-21 scoreline was defeated by World no. 1 Kento Momota.

Sindhu has been clubbed with defending Champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, World no.1 Tai Tzu Ying of Chineses Taipei and United States’ Beiwen Zhang in Group A.

Only eight top players compete in the prestigious season-ending event.
