In a significant announcement for cricket fans in Odisha, Australian pace legend Brett Lee has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the upcoming Odisha Pro T20 Cricket League. Alongside him, former India international and Odisha’s own Debasish Mohanty will also serve as a brand ambassador, giving the league both global and local representation.
The decision was finalized during the Special General Body Meeting of the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) held in Puri.
Tournament Details
The Odisha Pro T20 Cricket League is set to be played from September 15 to 24, featuring six franchise-based teams. Once the financial package for players is finalized, the franchises will proceed with player auctions. The format will see two league matches each day, ensuring high-intensity competition throughout the tournament.
To widen its reach, the entire tournament will be broadcast live on Star Sports, giving Odisha’s cricket a national platform.
OCA’s Broader Agenda
The OCA meeting also reviewed preparations for the India vs South Africa T20 International, scheduled for December 9 at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. The event will be overseen by the current OCA president, secretary, and all members, who are expected to coordinate security, crowd management, and hospitality for the high-profile international fixture.
Additionally, the meeting resolved that OCA elections will be conducted after the conclusion of the India–South Africa match, ensuring stability in administrative functioning until then.
Building Momentum for Cricket in Odisha
By bringing in an international star like Brett Lee alongside a homegrown stalwart like Debasish Mohanty, the Odisha Pro T20 Cricket League aims to combine international appeal with local pride. With franchise teams, auctions, and live broadcast coverage, the league is being positioned as a major stepping stone in the state’s cricketing journey.
