Bhubaneswar: The body of an Assam Rifles Jawan from Odisha who was killed by armed militants during a combing operation in Manipur’s Chandel district, reached the capital city today morning.

The martyr has been identified as Champeswar Mahakud (29), a native of Dhaurakhaman village under Rairakhol police limits of Sambalpur district. Mahakud’s wife and eight-year-old son reside in Angul.

Mahakud, who was working in Assam Rifles since 2001, was posted at Joupi in Chandel district of Manipur.

Reportedly, Champeswar attained martyrdom during a fire exchange with the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militants on Friday.

Being a para-military force member, CRPF Bhubaneswar has taken the responsibility for performing the last rites of Mahakud.

After his body was received at the airport today, officer and men of CRPF including GL Meena, DIG (Adm) and SK Tigga, DIG, GC, paid homage to the martyr.
