BMC Raids City Malls; Seize 71 Kg Polythene, Collect Rs 15,200 Fine

Bhubaneswar,Nov.19: In a massive move over malls and large business establishments across the city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) enforcement teams conducted surprise raids and seized 71 kg of polythene/plastic and collected a fine of Rs 15,200.

During last several days, the various enforcement squads deployed by the civic body under the leadership of the zonal deputy commissioners of three zones and deputy commissioner enforcement (Central Office), BMC has seized around 250 kg of polythene/plastic during a series of raids.

Today in the morning hours the raids were carried out by South East Zone under the leadership of its Joint Commissioner Bimalendu Ray and places like the Forum Mart in Satyanagar and Bhawani Mall in Saheed Nagar were raided among others from where 60 kg of polythene/plastic and Rs 6,000 as fine was collected.

While in Forum Mart Big Bazaar and four other establishments were raided, in Bhawani Mall four establishments were raided.

North Zone enforcement team conducted raids on Pal Heights, City Pharmacy, Pantaloon (Patia), Subway, Angan Heritage and Big Bazaar (Patia) today and collected 9200/- fine as administrative charges and collected polythene of more than 6 kg.

The raids under North Zone was conducted by under the leadership of BMC Deputy Commissioner (Enforcement) Subhranshu Mishra and Zonal Deputy Commissioner Pramod Kumar Prusty.

The South West Zone enforcement teams conducted raids on Big Bazaar and V2 at Krishna Plaza near ISKCON Temple, The World near Khandagiri and Sashtri Nagar and Priya Darshini Market near CRP Square.

The teams seized around 5 kg of polythene during their raids. The raids were conducted under the leadership of Zonal Deputy Commissioner Lalatendu Sahoo.

The raids will continue further to enforce “Plastic/polythene Ban” order given by the State Government on October 2.

In a different action, squads from South East Zone fined 9 shop owners in Bapuji Nagar Rs 250 each for not keeping dustbins near their shops.
