Puri.Jan. 02: The annual bird census at Nandankanan, Similpal and other forest divisions will begin from January 3, said Chief Wildlife Warden Sandeep Tripathy here today.

Besides, the bird census at Chilika Lake, Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon, will be held from January 4 while the same at Bhitarkanika and Hirakud will be carried out from January 6.

Every year, bird counting is held at 12 places in Odisha including Chilika in Puri district.

Besides, dolphin census will be carried out in Chilika lake on January 19 while the counting will take place at around 65 km coastal area from the Devi Mouth of Chilika. Last year, total 114 dolphins were spotted in Chilika.
