Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recently met with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Mr. VK Pandian, Chairman of 5T (Transformational Initiatives) and Nabin Odisha, at the CM’s residence to discuss initiatives aimed at empowering farmers through technology. During the meeting, Gates lauded various technology-driven farmer empowerment projects such as JagMission, MissionShakti, OdishaSchoolTransformation, BSKY, and other welfare initiatives like Healthcare Parivartan.
Patnaik shared the positive engagement on a social media platform, stating, “There was a wonderful discussion on our technology-driven farmer empowerment initiatives,” highlighting the collaborative efforts to enhance the agricultural landscape in the state.
Expressing gratitude, CM Patnaik thanked the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for its support in fostering innovation for inclusive benefits to the people. He acknowledged Gates’ appreciation for Odisha’s welfare initiatives and success across various sectors under the 5T transformational governance.
During his visit, Gates explored a slum in Bhubaneswar, interacting with residents and government officials. His itinerary included a visit to Biju Adarsh Colony within Maa Mangala Basti area, where he inquired about the welfare of slum dwellers and engaged with members of women self-help groups (SHGs).
Promoting Digital Agriculture
Gates further delved into various government welfare schemes, interacting with beneficiaries, and later visited Krishi Bhawan, the headquarters of Odisha’s agriculture and farmer empowerment department. The discussion revolved around a visionary plan for digital agriculture in Odisha, with a focus on positioning the state as a leader in implementing comprehensive technology solutions across agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors. This strategic initiative, guided by the leadership of CM Naveen Patnaik and Mr. VK Pandian, aims to propel Odisha towards agricultural innovation and sustainable growth, aligning with global standards.
