From June 9 to June 18, Bhubaneswar will host the four-team International Football Cup. The previous two competitions were held in Mumbai (2018) and Ahmedabad, making this the third event (2019). Lebanon, Mongolia, and Vanuatu will compete in the competition alongside the host nation, India. Until to this match, Mongolia and Vanuatu had never been opponents for the Indian men’s national team. The hosts have faced Lebanon six times in their history.
The Indian team is now unbeaten in five games at home, a run that started on June 8, 2022, with a 2-0 victory over Cambodia in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Kolkata. Since then, the team led by Igor Stimac has defeated Afghanistan (2-1), Hong Kong (4-0), and then, at the Tri-Nation competition in Imphal, it has defeated both Myanmar (1-0) and the Kyrgyz Republic (2-0).
