The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack no longer allow the use of bouncers at bars and pubs.
The owners have been sternly ordered to send out trained security guards from licenced private security firms.
The hiring of security guards must also be reported in writing by the bar owners to the police stations, along with identification and address proof. Police will check their criminal history. A direction in this regard has been issued by the Commissionerate Police.
The guideline said that the security officers cannot use force or violate the visitors’ basic rights in the event of any unfavourable situation.
In this event, they will first call the nearby police station at 112, then attempt to calm the situation while officers are present.
The action was taken in response to many complaints of disorderly conduct and abuse of patrons of clubs and pubs by bouncers.
