Bhubaneswar: The flight operations will continue smoothly at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar as the partial suspension of operations has been postponed for a month.
As per reports, the shut down scheduled from 1st November 2019 to 31st March 2020, will now commence from 1st December 2019 and the airport will be partially closed from 10:30 PM to 5:30 AM daily since December. This was informed by airport authorities.
“We will take up runway recarpeting work from 1st December, 2019. So, there will be no runway closure till November 30,” said Bhubaneswar airport director Suresh Chandra Hota.
Earlier, Hota had informed that Bhubaneswar airport will remain partially shut for eight months beginning from 1st November to carry out runway recarpeting.
Maintenance work includes recarpeting the runway, previously done in 2007, sources in BPIA say.
Biju Patnaik International Airport serves as one of the major civil aviation hubs in eastern India. It is named after the former chief minister of Odisha, Biju Patnaik. The airport boasts of two active scheduled passenger terminals i.e. Terminals 1 and 2 for domestic and international passengers, respectively.
