In advance of byelections in both Telangana and Odisha early next month, a group of BJP leaders met with the Election Commission in this city on Thursday to express their displeasure with the “illegal” transfers and postings made by those administrations.
The group, which also included BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh, party leaders Pratap Chandra Sarangi and N Ramchander Rao, filed memoranda of complaints against both states. The delegation was led by Union minister V Muraleedharan.
The BJP alleged in the memorandum that two officials who were BDOs in the Dhamnagar assembly segment had been transferred, and that both transfers had taken place after the announcement of the byelection.
The BJP claimed in the memorandum that the Odisha government had illegally transferred two government employees to the Bhadrak area “with an indirect and inappropriate motivation to further the polling prospects of the candidate of the ruling party.”
Similarly, the BJP brought up the matter of Rachakonda, an IPS officer serving as Telangana’s commissioner of police since 2016, in another document.
The BJP demanded quick action in the memo, claiming that the transfers and postings of officers prior to the bye-election for the Munugode assembly constituency in Telangana were “in contravention of the Election Commission standards.”
Elections are set to take place in Dhamnagar, Odisha, and Munugode, Telangana, on November 3.
