Sambalpur,Dec.16 : Eight persons were injured after an autorickshaw collided head-on with a car near Badabahal village under Redhakhol police limits in Sambalpur district on Sunday.
The incident took place this morning on the Redhakhol-Boudh road when the labourers were headed to Bhangamunda village for agricultural works.
A speeding car which was coming from the opposite direction dashed into the auto rickshaw injuring the onboard passengers. The collision was so intense that both the vehicle was badly mangled, a source said.
The injured have been identified as Padmini Bagh (50), Asha Pradhan (45), Bhuban Bagh (19), Baisakhi Chatria (50), Sanju Pradhan (35), Panchali Behera (17), Chaitanya Pradhan (35), and Srikar Majhi (35), all residents of Kusumkhaol village under Luhapanka panchayat in the district.
The injured persons were rescued by the locals and Redhakhol fire service personnel and rushed to the local hospital.
As per available information, the health condition of Bhuban and Asha is stated to be critical and they have been shifted to the VIMSAR Medical College and Hospital in Burla, said a source.
