While in Rome at WFP’s request, CM Naveen Patnaik gave a speech in front of the organization’s executive director David Beasley and the leadership group, among others.
According to a statement released here, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik spoke on stage at the World Food Programme (WFP) headquarters in Rome on Friday to discuss the advancements made by his administration in boosting livelihood and food security, with a focus on women and marginalised communities.
Patnaik, who is in Rome at the WFP’s invitation, spoke in front of David Beasley, the executive director, and other members of the leadership team in addition to having conversations with them about the partnerships and initiatives his government has already established to advance the shared goal of “Zero Hunger.”
According to the statement, which cited Patnaik, Odisha has had a transformational journey over the past 20 years in the areas of food production, food security, livelihoods, disaster management, and other areas.
The state is making steady progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, the Chief Minister said, by achieving food security, launching extensive growth-related programmes, focusing on partnerships, and developing livelihoods and nutrition that are climate resilient (SDG).
The CM was quoted in the announcement as stating, “It would be our pleasure to share our experience across the world through WFP and its partner agencies.”
Beasley welcomed Patnaik and stated that a number of ambitious projects are being undertaken to boost inclusive growth and new job opportunities, particularly for women, in Odisha, in order to achieve the shared aim of enhancing lives and food security.
The progress Odisha is making toward reaching “Zero Hunger” and the other UN Sustainable Development Goals is encouraging to observe, he said.
We acknowledge and value the state government of Odisha’s transformational work in the areas of food production, food security, and disaster management. Other nations in a similar situation can benefit from learning from Odisha’s success story. We have talked about how the government of Odisha and WFP will work together to advance this educational opportunity and offer a worldwide training platform, Beasley continued.
In order to combat hunger, the WFP and the government of Odisha inked four agreements and launched six projects in 2021.
