On Sunday, a scrap-built, six-foot-tall statue of Mahatma Gandhi was placed on the grounds of this city’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI), which is run by the government. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the monument, which weighs about 105 kg, was constructed as a tribute to the nation’s founding father.
According to Rajat Kumar Panigrahy, the institute’s principal, the sculpture was built from a variety of scrap materials, including 1,600 electric fan bearings, iron rods, and seat belts, among other things. The sculpture took about 15 days to build, and about 30 students from the fitter and welder wings as well as some teaching faculty worked on it. Fan bearings were utilised to make the entire body and the clothing, while seat belts were used to make the shoes and iron rods were used to make the eyes, fingers, and other parts.
“The garbage was gathered by our pupils from car shops and electrical workshops. They received these products for free from the proprietors of these businesses “explained he. In the past, students worked with Panigrahy to create a number of scrap sculptures, and the institute now includes a scrap museum on its grounds. “We create artefacts out of leftover materials. This accomplishes two things: it purifies the environment and fosters student creativity “Added he.
