After the release of Adieu Godard, the Odia film industry, which was suffering from severe losses due to low attendance, finally experienced a revival. It is a seductive story about an illiterate porn junkie who becomes a Godard fangirl after unintentionally witnessing a film by the French director.
The Odia-language movie was broadcast all over the country. Director Amartya Bhattacharyya described the film as “a socio-cultural comedic tribute to Jean-Luc Godard.” Adieu Godard is causing a stir in the state, as seen by the high foot traffic of approximately 97% attendees at cinemas in the state’s capital, Odisha.

In the Indian Language Competition at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) 2022, Adieu Godard had previously received the Best Film Award. At the 24th UK Asian Film Festival, it subsequently won the Dare to Dream prize (UKAFF). The Moscow International Film Festival hosted the movie’s world debut. The movie has been screened at a number of film festivals across the world, including the Split Film Festival in Croatia, the Mosaic South Asian Film Festival in Canada, and the Indian Film Festival of Stuttgart in Germany.
About the Film
The story centres on a man who is addicted to watching porn with pals and lives in the Indian village of Ananda. Ananda once unintentionally brings home a Godard film on DVD, mistaking it for a pornographic video. However, it ended up being Godard’s 1960 film Breathless, his debut and most well-known work. After that, he starts to fall in love with the movie by Jean-Luc Godard. Later, he starts thinking of organising a festival in the town where he would show Godard’s movies. Even Shilpa, who despises him for his love of porn, teaches him some basic English so he can understand the subtitles. The next events are described in the film.
In Adieu Godard, Odia actors Shankar Basu Mallick, Abhishek Giri, Swastik Choudhury, Dipanwit Dash Mohapatra, Choudhury Jayaprakash Das, and Sudhasri Madhusmita are among the cast members who play Ananda.
