A motion moved in the Assembly to excuse Abhijit for his remarks has passed, informed Leader of Opposition and Chairman of the House Committee, Narasingha Mishra today. The panel presented its report in the House yesterday, he said.
“The Committee recommends that the August House may be magnanimous to consider and accept the apology begged by Abhijit Iyer Mitra for his statement made by him before the media against honourable members of the House and drop the matter,” the report said.
The committee has further recommended the House to direct the State Government to “provide materials to Abhijit Iyer Mitra to educate him about the art, culture, history and the people of Odisha”.
Notably, Odisha Assembly Speaker Pradip Amat had on September 20 constituted a House Committee to probe the alleged derogatory remarks by Abhijit. He had appeared before the panel on October 23 and sought an unconditional apology.
On the very day, he was arrested by the Twin City Commissionerate Police in connection with a criminal case registered against him at the Saheed Nagar Police Station here.
Worth mentioning, on September 16, Abhijit had posted a video on Twitter in which he was seen criticising the Konark temple. Later, he went on making alleged defamatory remarks against Odia culture and Odisha MLAs.
