Yet another chit fund scam has raised its ugly head in North Odisha. This time, Real Vision International Limited, a non-banking financial company (NBFC) has been accused of duping depositors of Basudevpur and nearby areas in Bhadrak district of Rs one crore. A case was registered in this regard at Basudevpur police station on Monday.
The depositors alleged that the company opened its branch at Basudevpur in 2012 and started collecting recurring deposits with a promise to refund two times of the invested money in three years. Lured by the promise of the company, people invested money and the company initially provided the assured returns.
“I had deposited Rs 50,000 in five instalments. The company paid interest at the rate of two per cent for a few months initially but, it stopped payment suddenly. The company also closed its office at Basudevpur after the Crime Branch raided chit fund companies across the State in May 2013,” said a depositor, Anata Sahu.
According to the complaint, the depositors had met the promoter of the company Sudhir Kumar Behera at his Cuttack residence several times, but he did not refund even the deposited amount despite assurances.
The depositors finally took the shelter of the law when Behera went missing and avoided taking calls from them.
Meanwhile, Basudevpur police have registered a case and asked the depositors to submit the related document of the schemes floated by the company.
