Puri: The wildlife wing of Odisha Forest department on Friday began the annual bird census in five zones of Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon Chilika.
According to reports, 21 teams comprising 100 officials have started the headcount of the migratory birds from today morning. Besides, three units of forest officials are carrying out the census at three different places in the Brahmagiri range.
Meanwhile, the bird census at Kolab reservoir in Koraput district and Nandankanan Zoological Park has been completed.
As per the latest bird census, around 919 migratory birds have visited the reservoir this year which is as compared to the previous year census in the Kolab reservoir. Whereas 2468 migratory birds of 28 species were sighted at Zoological park against 2514 migratory birds last year.
