The Millets Mission will now be implemented in all 30 districts of the state, according to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s announcement on Thursday.
The chief minister said “mandia,” or millet, is a treasure trove of nutrition and provides nourishment to people of all age groups, while speaking at a celebration to mark Mandia Divas here. Over the next five years, he claimed, the government will invest Rs 2,800 crore in the Millet Mission.
“The mission has attracted the attention of the world and even United Nations has praised the programme. It has become a model for other states,” the chief minister added.
The mission has attracted up to two lakh farmers, 82 FPOs, and 1,200 Mission Shakti groups. Future iterations of the programme will involve more farmers and Mission Shakti organizations.
