Bhubaneswar: BJD Parliamentary party leader Bhartruhari Mahtab today shot off a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan urging her to accept resignation of Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda.
In the letter, Mahtab stated that Panda has been involved in various anti-party activities since long for which he was suspended from BJD. He further stated that Panda has already resigned from the BJD’s primary membership; hence, he has no rights to continue as an MP.
“I request you to kindly accept his resignation forthwith, since he ceases to be a MP as per Constitution & Law, so that the necessary consequences may obtain and follow,” the letter read.
It is alleged that Panda has been involved in several anti-party activities post Panchayat elections. Panda’s political coordinator Debu Mallick had also even alleged that the MP used to spread rumours on CM Naveen Patnaik’s health condition. The ruling BJD suspended the Kendrapara MP on January 24.
On May 28, Panda quit the party after no one from the BJD attended the last rites of his father Bansidhar Panda.
