More than 300 militia members, including 13 from the Kusumput region of Andhra Pradesh, were among those who surrendered.
At the Andrahal BSF camp in Malkangiri, almost 700 Maoist sympathisers, including 300 militiamen, turned themselves in on Saturday to the Odisha police and BSF.
They denounced the Maoist ideology in front of the community and the media by setting Maoist literature and clothing on fire and yelling “Maobadi Murdabad.”
The Odisha police stated in a press release that this was a part of their Ghar Wapasi initiative. They made a commitment to despise violence and assimilate into society after being inspired by the district’s development work. Over 300 militia members, including 13 from the Andhra Pradesh region of Kusumput, were among those who turned themselves in.
“These Maoist followers used to help in the violent acts and were involved in the assassination of security forces, civilians, and other people,” the news announcement continued. They were also giving them logistical support. By burning Maoist effigies and clothing, the surrendered militias/supporters of Odisha and neighbouring AP demonstrated their resistance to Maoist doctrine and shouted “Maobadi Murdabad, Ama Sarkar Jindabad.”
ASP Malkangiri According to Nitesh Wadhwani, “Over the years, a noticeable change has been observed. Along with improving the policing system, we have worked very hard, at the government’s direction, to help the local residents grow their economies. People now have more faith that the police are looking out for their safety and security thanks to our efforts.
