In the past two months, at least 59 H3N2 influenza cases have been identified in Odisha, according to Sanghamitra Pati, director of the regional medical research centre (RMRC)-Bhubaneswar, who spoke on Saturday.

Between January and February 2023, the RMRC-Bhubaneswar analysed 225 suspected flu samples for H3N2; 59 of these samples proved positive for H3N2, one for influenza, and one for Covid-19, according to the researcher.

Yet she said that not a single instance of H1N1 flu (swine flu) was found in the suspected sample.

According to Pati, the detection has been communicated to public health officials and any involved healthcare facilities.

Almost 3,000 instances of H3N2 influenza have been confirmed in labs across the nation thus far.

Notably, the Government wrote to all states and Union Territories on Saturday urging them to remain vigilant, take preventive measures, and educate the public about the viral infection that has symptoms similar to those of COVID.
