Cuttack: In an effort to curb the flourishing contraband liquor trade in the city, Cuttack Excise officials seized over 500 litres of country liquor from a car after conducting a raid near Athagarh on Sunday and arrested one person.
The Cuttack Excise Flying Squad swung into action after a tip-off in the morning and chased a Maruti Suzuki car bearing registration number OD 06 D 9250 and intercepted it near Athagarh. During the search of the vehicle the squad members found at least six packets carrying over 500 litres of country liquor loaded in it and seized them. They arrested the drive later.
The seized liquor consignment was being sent to Kandarpur area in the district from Athagarh, informed Sarat Chandra Bhanja, IIC, Flying Squad.
While the interrogation of the held driver is underway to find out the involvement of any racket in the case, more similar raids have been planned in coming days to keep illegal liquor traders at bay, he added.
