As per the report, members of Go Surkhya Samiti, a cow protection group intercepted one truck at Gandhi Chhak and two others on Jeypore-Koraput hilly road after getting a tip-off on illegal cattle transport late last night. After bringing back and assembling all three trucks at Gandhi Chhak and conducting a search inside those the members of the Samiti found that cows and buffaloes were being transported under inhumane conditions.
As tension prevailed at the spot following the incident, Koraput Sadar Police reached the spot and arrested the detained drivers. Later it seized trucks along with the cattle.
“The cows were being sent to slaughter houses located in neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh’s Manappuram area from Nabrangpur Road. Illegal cattle traders are sending cows and buffaloes to the neighbouring states after collecting them form Nabarangpur and Kotpad areas in regular interval which needs to be checked,” said Lalit Agarwal, a member of Go Surakhya Samiti.
“We have seized all three vehicles with the help of Go Surakhya Samiti and detained the drivers. The matter is under investigation,” informed Kailash Sethi, IIC, Jeypore Sadar Police Station
