According to an official, the police detained three cab drivers on Thursday on suspicion of pursuing, verbally abusing, and threatening with a sword a female police officer who was driving home from night duty here two days prior.
DCP Prateek Singh reported that the three were taken into custody in various Bhubaneswar neighbourhoods.
Sub-Inspector Subhasree Nayak of the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar filed a complaint alleging that on January 2, when she was driving home from night shift in her car in the Science Park area, three males in an SUV followed her and screamed insults in her direction.
They kept along with her as she took a different path and arrived close to Police Reserve Ground. One of the three pulled out a sword and made a threat to slay her there.
A few police officers arrived on the scene as soon as she called for help, and the SUV sped off.
The three were picked up on Friday after the vehicle was located on Wednesday, according to Mr. Singh. They were also discovered to be taxi drivers by trade.
