On Saturday, Dipali Das of the ruling BJD in Odisha defeated Tankadhar Tripathy of the opposition BJP by 48,721 votes, keeping the Jharsuguda assembly seat, according to an election official.
Tripathy received 58,477 votes, while Das received 1,07,198 votes overall. Tarun Pandey, a candidate for Congress, received 4,496 votes, according to an officer with the Election Commission.
“This is a win for the citizens of Jharsuguda, for those who loved my father, for the Chief Minister, for the BJD, and for everyone who was connected to him. Naba Das has triumphed with this, stated Dipali Das.
Dipali is the daughter of Naba Kishore Das, the health minister for the state of Odisha, whose suspected murder in January by a police officer prompted the by-election.
In the general elections of 2019, Naba Kishore Das won the seat with a margin of 45,740 votes.
