Lucknow,October 22: A groom was held hostage by the relatives of the bride and his head was tonsured after he refused to go ahead with the marriage over dowry demands.
The incident took place in Khurram Nagar locality of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.
According to sources, the groom and his family members demanded a motorcycle and gold ornaments as dowry. When the family members of the bride expressed inability to meet the dowry demands, the groom refused to go ahead with the marriage.
The bride’s grandmother alleged that the groom’s family made all these demands just five days before the wedding.
“They made these demands 5 days before the wedding. He refused to marry after we said we can’t fulfill them. Don’t know who tonsured his head,” the bride’s grandmother was quoted as saying by ANI.
Later, the angry family members of the bride held hostage the groom and his relatives. They tonsured the heads of the groom and three others.
Some members of the wedding party later dialed emergency number 100 and contacted the police. The police rushed to the scene and released the groom and his relatives from the hostage and brought them to police station.
