Odisha Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his speech, he said, “Awareness is essential to draw the attention of people to the library. While earlier students used to spend most of their time in reading, these days they are seen glued to the internet. The reason is that these days they lack patience.”
He appealed the librarians present on this occasion to find ways to attract the new generation to the library.
Vice-Chairman of the State Higher Education Council Professor Ashok Das graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and said, “Library is like a temple to all. In today’s age of technology, we are using the internet which is an unrecognized library. In the coming days, the library should be a comfortable place for everybody.”
He also stressed on digital suitcase so that all the textbooks would be available on one platform.
On this occasion Prof. T.D. Kemparaju. Vice-Chancellor, Bengaluru North University said that technology has taken an important part in our lives. There are rarely any works today which do not use technology. In the field of the library also information technology has been deeply implemented. So far modern libraries are already using a number of functions using the latest technology. Hence it is high time that the librarians should prepare them accordingly, he said.
VC of KIIT University Sasmitarain Samanta said that KIIT has always made it a point to use technology in library management. “We have all the modern amenities here in the library. A student can use all the libraries of KIIT by sitting in one place,” she said.
On this occasion, the chief librarian of KIIT Dr. Bijaylaxmi Routray presented the welome speech while the convener of CALIBER 2019 Dr. HG Hosamani offered the vote of thanks.
